The ENTRY HALL of ‘The Golden Reule’ above is conceived not as a literal reconstruction of Gothic Revival architecture, but as a continuation of its underlying spirit. The intent is not historical reproduction, but the translation of Gothic ideas—wonder, symbolism, atmosphere, memory, and the sublime—into a contemporary architectural language. Marbleized thresholds, celestial ceilings, atmospheric landscapes, and richly colored objects are employed not as period details, but as narrative devices, allowing the room to evoke the emotional and imaginative qualities that made Gothic Revival compelling in the first place.
Within this composition, the hall exists in a state suspended between earth and sky. The scenic walls depict a remembered landscape rendered in softened taupes and mists, while above, a celestial ceiling dissolves into stars, clouds, and darkness. Between these two realms, light moves through the space, animating the architecture and reinforcing the sense of passage. The room becomes a threshold not only between adjacent chambers, but between the terrestrial and the cosmic, the historical and the contemporary, the remembered and the imagined. In this way, the hall serves as an overture to the house beyond, establishing the themes of memory, observation, atmosphere, and wonder that define ‘The Golden Reule’ as a whole. BELOW THE DINING ROOM IS THE FIRST STEP OF THE PROCESS.
Through a series of architectural and domestic studies, SLOANEHOME develops speculative visualizations that allow clients to inhabit a project before construction begins. These studies are not intended as technical renderings alone, but as atmospheric instruments through which material, memory, proportion, and character may be evaluated. This generally follows the featured phase 01 style and research boards on view to below.
